The Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness equips individuals with knowledge on key mental health issues, including stress, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, and depression, with a focus on workplace scenarios.
Participants will enhance their communication skills, learn the importance of active listening, understand how to offer support to peers, and identify when to seek urgent help.
This one-day training is recommended for anyone aiming to foster a positive mental health culture within their workplace. However, it does not qualify one to act as a Mental Health First Aider.
The Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness spans a single day, with the entire qualification process taking 7 hours, which must be concluded within a three-week period.
During these 7 hours, participants will engage in guided learning sessions led by an expert trainer, focusing on understanding mental health conditions that can arise in the workplace. There is no expectation for participants to undertake any additional self-study beyond the hours spent in training.
Topics include:
Importance of Mental Health: Identification and understanding of mental health and its significance in the workplace, including basic mental health first aid.
Roles and Responsibilities: Definition of roles such as Mental Health First Aiders and the responsibilities of employers and employees towards fostering a supportive environment.
Legislation: Key laws and regulations that govern mental health in the workplace, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, Equality Act, and others.
Promoting Positive Mental Health: Strategies for employers to promote a positive mental health culture, such as active listening, non-discriminatory practices, and regular staff training.
Understanding Mental Health Conditions: Recognition and understanding of signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions like stress, anxiety, depression, and various eating disorders.
Workplace Implementation: Introduction of mental health core standards and best practices in the workplace, including the creation of mental health plans and encouraging open discussions about mental health.
Mental Health First Aid: Key features of a Mental Health First Aid at Work Action Plan, focusing on immediate response to mental health issues.
This course is open to individuals aged 16 and above who aspire to become mental health first aiders. It's suited for those with a keen interest in mental wellness and a desire to support colleagues in alignment with the relevant laws and guidelines.
Assessment for the Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness is conducted through a multiple-choice examination. Candidates are given 25 minutes to complete the test, and they must attempt all questions. Achieving a score of 10 out of 15 or higher is considered a pass.
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a personalised Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace (RQF).
The course commences with an exploration of mental health and its significance, touching on both workplace environments and broader societal contexts. Discussions will delve into the concept of mental health, recognising its potential to be transient, variable, or persistent.
Participants will gain insights into the roles of individuals connected with mental health support and the pertinent legal frameworks within the workplace. The programme offers comprehensive discussions on various mental health conditions, culminating in a detailed overview of MHFA England's 5-step action plan, known as STOPS. This strategy is crafted to provide aid to individuals experiencing psychological distress.
